Thomas Shapcott (b.1935) has recently retired as inaugural Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Adelaide (South Australia) and is
presently on a Harold White Fellowship at the National Library of Australia in Canberra. He is the author of over 50 books, including poetry, fiction,
criticism etc. His most recent publications are the novel, Spirit Wrestlers (2004) and the collection of poems, Chekhov’s Mongoose (2000). He has received numerous awards, including an Order of Australia (AO, 1989) and the Patrick White Award (2000).
