Richard Gaughran holds a Ph.D. in American Literature from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA. He has taught at Lehigh; at Allentown College in Center Valley, Pennsylvania; and at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He lived and worked in Skopje, Macedonia, from 1997-2000, the first two years as Senior Fulbright Lecturer in American Studies at the University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius. He has also worked on numerous literary translations from Macedonian to English and is editor and co-translator (with Zoran Anchevski) of a collection of Macedonian short stories in English, published in Skopje under the title Change of the System: Stories of Contemporary Macedonia. He currently works as a freelancer from Bratislava, Slovakia.
