There have come here, like the spring,
those good folk too
who live
a life of horse and wings.
There have taken shelter with us
all ages, kingdoms and arms,
so that now in this confused picture of our people
only you know the path to follow
but I am by your side on guard
and my vigilant spirit
climbs a slope
and takes aim
at every invented fantasy
but your star stays
in the same place. You, father, now
are not disturbed by anything,
you departing,
or I seeing you for the last time:
neither the scent of the violet,
nor the mantle of snow.
Ash is scattered away
among the coffee cups and stars.
