National Identity and Popular Croatian Soap Operas

(The historical TV novella “Pride of the Ratkajev family” seen through the audience)

Abstract: Based on the methodology that favors the hermeneutic approach in analyzing popular culture, the text emphasizes the view that popular culture is a matter which concerns personal and cultural and national identity of the community. Through the ways in which the audience interprets and gives the meaning to the TV novella “Pride of the Ratkajev family” and the wider political context, will be pointed to the link between national identity and popular culture
