Poetry – Vladislav Hristov

it is silent in the woods
the guard is strolling
stepping on
the fallen autumn leaves
which are warm now
from the sunlight
behind the man’s long footsteps
there lingers a pleasant smell
of cornflower and crocus plants
the guard’s dog is lagging behind
and catching up with his master
just to play with the shoulder strap
of his shotgun
just a few meters ahead of them
a thin line of smoke is raising
from a deer’s dead body
as if to warn them there are enemies
nearby
at the other end of the forest
the killers are arguing loudly
if they shot down the deer or not
behind the guard’s long footsteps
there lingers a pleasant smell
of cornflower and crocus plants
