short story writer, novelist, playwright, essayist, literary critic, translator. Born 24th May 1930 in Skopje. Graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy. One-time director of Macedonian Television and of the “Kliment Ohridski” National and University Library. Was editor of the journal “Mlada lilteratura” and a long-time editor of the literary journal “Razgledi”. Member of the Macedonian P.E.N. Centre. Member of the Macedonian Writers’ Association since 1956 and one-time its president.
Works: Melted snows (short stories, 1956), Under white heat (novel, 1957), Up and down the river (short stories, 1960), The fence (1963), The short spring of Mono Samonikov (novel, 1964), The winter of freedom (short stories, 1968), A speech about Igor (short stories, 1969), Quo vadis Scriptor (essays, 1970), Snails (short stories, 1975), Dogwood (novel, 1980), Dawn round the corner (novel, 1984), Black mirror (short stories, 1985), Stuntman (novel, 1988), The withering away of the state (short stories, 1990), Change of the system (short stories, 1993), Dead race (novel, 1998). Also author of radio and television plays: A gun in the lake (1996), Okra or Hibiscus esculentus (1967), A cruise of the shadow (1968), Virgins (1969), Dead Guard (1969).
Awards include: “11th October”, “13th November”, “Racinovo priznanie”, Best book of the year for 1990).
